History:
This special build Giulietta was delivered new on 24 April 1956 to first owner Fabregas Salas of Barcelona, Spain. He entered the Sprint in the 1956 Mille Miglia with race number 115 and finished in 48th position. 12th in the 1.3-liter Special Touring GT category. He also entered the car in the 1957 Mille Miglia with race number 41 finishing in 60th position overall 17th in his class. Fabregas Salas went on to take part in five known additional rallies or races until 1959 including the 1958 Monte Carlo Rally. This outstanding event history is well documented with race entry forms, articles and results. The ownership is all known.
Description:
One of just over 100 Lightweight (Alleggerita) special build Sprint Veloce were prepared for competition. Bodied by Bertone for Alfa Romeo. Pulled off the standard production line and built by the race department. It was modified with aluminum doors, front hood, rear trunk lid, Plexi glass windows and aluminum light weight bright work. The oil pan and intake manifold were out of magnesium. The fuel tank had a larger capacity. This example was tuned by specialist Conrero. Bringing the 1.3-liter overhead camshaft engine to 130 HP.
